Kotori, 59, is a Japanese man who regularly participates in Active Brain Club (as Thinkie is branded in Japan). In this translated interview, he explains how viewing his brain's activity in real time motivates him to maintain his daily brain training regimen.

Q: Tell us what prompted you to start training with ABC.

A: It all started when I was working on improving brain activity both at work and personally. I also started to feel more and more conscious of my own aging, so I wanted to see the effects for myself.

Kotori measures his brain activity with Brain Meter every morning while reading the Nikkei newspaper aloud.

Q: There are many brain training exercises out there; why did you choose ABC?

A: I thought that neurofeedback training, which involves measuring blood flow to the brain, would be a major factor in my motivation and persistence.

Q: How often do you train?

A: I usually do it in the morning. I've been working from home lately, so I've been able to do it almost every day.

Q: What effects have you felt?

A: I've figured out the trick to increasing brain activity. Since March, I've been measuring my brain activity with Brain Meter every morning while reading the Nikkei newspaper aloud. I feel like reading aloud and taking in information helps my brain to function better.

Q: Tell us about your goals for the future.

A: To be honest, I was shocked when I got my first brain age check -- I was 12 years older than my actual age! My immediate goal has been to get back to my actual age, and then to get even younger. It's a lot of fun to objectively know the state of my brain, check the log, and use that as encouragement to continue training.
